Military Order of the Purple Heart

Volume 6
Issue 11
August 2026

Greetings Patriots,

As we approach National Purple Heart Day on August 7th, I ask each of you totake a moment to reflect on the extraordinary sacrifice represented by the PurpleHeart. This day is not only a time to honor those who have been wounded or paidthe ultimate price in defense of our nation, but also an opportunity to educateour communities about the meaning and significance of our medal.

The Purple Heart is more than an award—it is a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to duty. Every member of our Order carries a story of service and sacrifice that deserves to be remembered and honored.

As members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, we have a unique responsibility to preserve that legacy for future generations.I encourage each Chapter and every member throughout Region VI to participate in local National Purple Heart Day ceremonies, community events, and observances. Wear your Purple Heart with pride, attend commemorative programs, visit schools or civic organizations when invited, and take every opportunity to share the history and purpose of our Order. Your presence reminds our fellow citizens that freedom has never been free.

This is also an excellent opportunity to recognize the communities throughout Region VI that have earned the designation of Purple Heart City, County, or Community. Please thank the local leaders and volunteers who continue to support veterans and military families and encourage others to join in recognizing the sacrifices of our nation's combat-wounded heroes.

Most importantly, I ask each of you to reach out to a fellow member, especially those who may no longer be able to attend meetings or events. A phone call, a visit, or a simple reminder that they remain an important part of our Order can make a lasting difference.I am proud to serve alongside each of you. Your continued dedication to our mission, your commitment to veterans, and yourservice to your communities exemplify the values upon which theMilitary Order of the Purple Heart was founded.

On August 7th, let us stand together across Region VI to honor our fallen, recognize our wounded, and reaffirm our commitment to serving veterans, their families, and our nation.Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment to the Military Order ofthe Purple Heart.Mike Smaydy

To the Patriots of the Department of Arizona,It is with heavy heart that I had to resign as Commander of the Department of Arizona MOPH. This decision was not easy or made without a lot of input from our Department Adjutant and our National officers. The National By-Laws prohibit any member from holding a National elective office and being aDepartment Commander.

For the Good Of The Order, I accepted the nomination to be Region VI Commander. At the nationalMOPH convention in New Bern, NC I was elected and installed as Region VI commander. As a result, this resignation is required by the bylaws. It was the consensus that this was the best way For The Good of the Order.

I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused in the Department but know that I will still be working for the good of the Military Order Of The Purple Heart USA.

Respectfully yours in Patriotism,

Michael J. Smaydy
